How to Cut Long Hair and Make it Look Good

Long hair is an iconic hairstyle in which the hair is allowed to grow to an excessive length. Just what constitutes long hair varies from culture to country, or within certain cultures. Generally speaking when talking about long hair, you are talking about hair that is between shoulder length and your wrist length. If you have long hair naturally then chances are you will want to do something with it in order to take it up a notch or two.

While long hair looks absolutely stunning when worn and swept up in a fancy up style, there is one major problem that comes with it. That problem is the texture. It may look great straight down but when worn in different styles and hairstyles, it often times appears that the locks are braided or stuck into the scalp rather than being able to flow naturally.

In order to get around this problem, and one of the quickest ways to add texture to your long hair, is to add braids, cornrows, twists or a combination of both. Braids can be made from a variety of materials and each one adds its own little charm. For example, if you are going for a French braid, then all you need is a round brush and some hair. If you choose to use a cornrow then this is even easier because all you need are lengths of hair that you can turn around in multiple directions. The result is a head of long hair that has been organized by the shape of the brush, with the ends curled and soft.

Another way to add texture to your long hair is to cut it into different, subtle layers. For instance, if you have had a short haircut then you could use the layers to create interest in the front and back of your head. Depending on your personal preference, you could go for a smooth transition from one layer to the next or you could try a more choppy cut. It all depends on how confident you feel with yourself about the way your hair looks.

The last method I am going to talk about in regards to long layered hairstyles is to add face-framing bangs. If you do not like the idea of having your hair framed then you will be happy to know that there are several ways that you can add these to your hair. One option would be to use a small curling iron or even your finger to twirl the hair back and forth in a circular motion. This is an easy way to frame your face with soft flowing locks. Alternatively, you could use a small pair of scissors to carefully cut the strands so that they are either very thin or very long.

These three methods are all good ways to incorporate a few simple cuts into your long hair and give you something that fits well with your face. If you want to learn more about how to cut your own long hair, then check out the links below. You will find a wealth of information and helpful tips.
